Prepositions

 UPPCS (या किसी भी PCS/CSAT इंग्लिश सेक्शन) में Prepositions पर सवाल अक्सर “Fill in the blanks” या “Error detection” में पूछे जाते हैं।

इन्हें याद करने के कुछ आसान tricks, examples और short rules नीचे दिए हैं 👇

🌿 1. “Time” से जुड़े Prepositions के लिए Trick

Preposition        उपयोग                             Example

At             exact time (समय विशेष)          at 5 o’clock, at noon

On            दिन या तारीख on Monday,       on 15th August

In             महीना, साल, या लंबा समय             in May, in 2025, in the morning

🧠 Trick:

👉 At छोटा समय, On एक दिन, In लंबा समय।

(छोटा–मध्यम–लंबा क्रम याद रखो)

🌿 2. “Place” से जुड़े Prepositions

Preposition                 उपयोग                        Example

At                     किसी बिंदु पर               at the gate,at the bus stop

In                     अंदर के क्षेत्र में              in the room, in India

On                     सतह पर                   on the table, on the wall

🧠 Trick:

👉 अगर किसी जगह के अंदर हो तो in,

सतह पर हो तो on,

सिर्फ पॉइंट पर हो तो at।

🌿 3. Movement (गति) वाले Prepositions

Preposition मतलब Example

To किसी स्थान की ओर go to school

Into अंदर की ओर जाना go into the room

Onto ऊपर की ओर जाना climb onto the roof

From किसी स्थान से come from Delhi

🧠 Trick:

👉 To = दिशा, Into = अंदर जाना, Onto = ऊपर जाना।

🌿 4. Common confusing pairs

सही गलत नहीं लगना चाहिए Trick

angry with (person) angry on व्यक्ति पर “with”

angry at (thing/situation) angry on स्थिति पर “at”

different from different than/to हमेशा from

interested in interested on हमेशा in

depend on/upon depend at हमेशा on/upon

afraid of afraid from हमेशा of

🌿 5. Fixed prepositions वाले शब्द

इन्हें बिना सोचे याद रखो – हमेशा यही pair आएगा।

शब्द Preposition Example

listen to Listen to me

consist of Consists of five parts

insist on Insist on honesty

laugh at Laugh at others

prefer to Prefer tea to coffee

agree with (person), to (idea) Agree with you / agree to plan

🧠 Trick:

👉 इन्हें “pair words” मानो — जैसे “listen–to”, “laugh–at”, “depend–on” आदि।

🌿 6. Error detection में ट्रिक

यदि वाक्य में Verb या Adjective के साथ preposition गलत दी गई है — वही error होती है।

जैसे –

❌ He is afraid from dog.

✅ He is afraid of dog.

🌿 7. Short memory trick (Mnemonic)

👉 “AT–ON–IN”

At छोटा, On मध्यम, In बड़ा।

👉 “IN–ON–AT” time बढ़ने के साथ place घटता जाता है।

👉 कुछ pairs याद रखो — laugh at, look at, listen to, depend on, believe in.
